Why Is Cancun Exciting?
To locals, Xcaret means "small cove", but for travelers on a quest for fun, Xcaret is the premier destination. Developed as a natural park and opened to the public in 1990, this beautiful area specializes in family attractions within a breathtaking eco natural landscape. Cancun delivers paradise at Xcaret. Family adventures in this ecological theme park will create vacation memories unsurpassed by any other. If you are heading to Cancun, do not miss out on the world of Xcaret.
Don't forget your bathing suit when you enter Xcaret as you will need it when you swim with the dolphins. Bottlenose dolphins swim freely in this park and you will have an opportunity to spend time swimming with them. Xcaret hosts a special dolphin program just for kids where they will learn all about these marine friends, as the dolphins perform tricks and the kids can touch them. Xcaret has several 'Swim with the dolphins' programs available for the visitor so take advantage of at least one of them.
If you are still holding onto your swimming suit, then venture further into Xcaret, to the inlets of magical blue water where natural Jacuzzi's are formed by the waves and vivid colorful fish abound. Scuba diving will take you to the world's second largest barrier reef and this eco tour will delight you as you walk among turtles in their habitat.
Before you get into dry clothes, there are still the underground rivers of Xcaret that you can explore. At the entrance of the mangroves, pink flamingoes welcome you in while inside are mysterious caves and unique rock formations. Six different exits open to the tropical sun and the rivers are lit in strategic areas to emphasize the natural beauty of these ancient underground rivers.
Included in your admission to the eco theme park is the butterfly pavilion. One of the largest multi level gardens for butterflies existing today; it supports free flight of native butterflies, with thousands fluttering around you, making you like a child again.
A visit inside Xcaret would not be complete without seeing Jaguar Island. It is here the world's most beautiful cat's play amongst a jungle setting. Telescopes exist to let the curious eyes see into the secret habitat of these elegant creatures. When you're ready to explore more jungle wildlife, there is also Monkey Island and a crocodile habitat.
As you wind down from the day's activities, you will be pleasantly surprised by all the shows and exhibitions in which Xcaret provides as you can have dinner at "Gran Tlachco" and take in a show at the same time. A taste of Mexico combined with cultural music and dance performances tantalizes all five of your senses. In the evening, a folklore performance plays out, with drums beating in the background as fires burn high mixed with the smells of incense and the sounds of Mayan children singing. It is only here that you then realize you are in paradise.
